I Samuel 20
Jonathan was a faithful friend to David, but more importantly, he was faithful to God. Finding yourself torn between two people that you love is very difficult – especially when those two people don’t get along.
Jonathan was very disappointed in his dad and the poor choices that he made. Jonathan stood up to his father and defended David. He knew that his father was in the wrong and David was in danger. Jonathan was very sad because he knew he had to say goodbye to his best friend. But…
Jonathan did not let his disappointment with his earthly father get in the way with his relationship with his heavenly father. Jonathan was able to do all that he did because he trusted God, and he let his relationship with God guide him in his relationships on earth.
Think about it:
Have your parents ever disappointed you by their poor choices?
Have you let your parents’ poor choices affect your relationship with God?
Do you let God guide you in your relationships on earth?

I think that its amazing that Jonathan would be such a friend to david. It would be hard to stick up for someone whan they are hated and trying to be killed by your own family. Jonathan shows to David how much of a true friend he is.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It would be REALLY hard to stand up for one of my friends if my dad tried to kill them. I'm glad jonathan overcame his fears to do what is right.
ReplyDeleteletting God guide my earthly relation ships is kinda diffucult for me, and those close to me know that i know first hand how it is "Finding yourself torn between two people that you love is very difficult – especially when those two people don’t get along."-- i just had to put trust in God that it would work out and it did.
ReplyDeletegood job Jonathan...
i agree with katelyn. it would be very hard to be choosing sides with either your dad or best friend. jonathon trusted God and it turned out for the best. i think that leads to tell us that God knows what he's doing and will make the right decisions for us also.
